<img class="alignnone wp-image-2407" title="Metallics ONEOFPOINTS.
I wasn’t such a big fan of Burberry’s S/S’13 collection when it ran on the Milan runways last summer. When I found out that H&M Trend for Men had picked up the Burberry Prorsum vibrant blue metallic for their own shirt in Berlin I was sure this trend just wasn’t for me. There were two reasons that I was hesitating to wear that particular fabric: For one, there was no hiding those months and months of careless eating outbursts anymore in this shirt and I could envision this shirt in a modern-day Elvis the Musical revival in Sin City or on the body of Macadonia’s next Eurovision Songcontest entry in 2014.

Now, next to transparency the combination of opposites is something that I’ve been loving lately. Sporty chic, edgy classy and so on. That’s why I was absolutely flabbergasted when I found this oversized shirt with metallic blue (!) cutabouts in the ASOS sale. It’s like when you bake that cake, according to your grandmother’s old recipe and accidently put in the wrong ingredient only to find out that you’ve upgraded that recipe to a modern-day ensemble of flavors so perfect it’s nearly impossibe to describe. Yeah, that’s it. In combination with a bit of strass, the transparant VHS shoulder bag and my new 20′s hairstyle (do you guys like it?) I felt even more Lana Del Rey then Instagram.

Whereas one is craving for that gorgeous leather bag that will cause you to sell one of your legs to afford half of it I’m simply satisfied with plastic. Plastic really is fantastic. My obsession with transparent items continued as I was suddenly reminded of my plastic obsession when I walked into Bershka’s Paris store, absolutely flabbergasted by it’s ambience and apparent new look. While feeling like I was actually in a store (instead of tue hoochie ambience consisting of heat and very loud music) I was astonished by their new collection. Believe me, Inditex fired several people in their design department because that shit, the collection that is, was burning hot. I’d been searching for a replacement for my large manbag (one that I bought in 2009 with my first salary) ever since the first rips and cracks started to appear, but couldn’t find anything that was able to end my quest. When I spotted these plastic beauties (obviously there is no amount of leather involved in any of these bags) I knew, I just knew. After my first use of the white bag I was immediately reminded of the fact that my bag is a total mess and since anyone can see what’s in my bag whilst I’m sporting this simple white baby a neat bag isn’t optional anymore but obligatory.

PLASTIC FANTASTIC

I’d never been to Paris until last year. The short one-day city trip left me with absolutely no impression of the city. Sure, I’d seen the Eiffel tower, walked the entire Champs-Élysées climbed the steps of the Sacré-Cœur and spent ten minutes in Montmartre but with the continuous feeling of hurry and the uncomfortably fast pace with which I tried to see as much of Paris as I could in one day my trip to Paris left me unsure what to think of the City of Love.

A year later I returned and left the city much more satisfied. Even though the hotel was a nightmare and I was happy to be in my own bed on the first night of my return it turned out that, call it a cliché, I loved Paris after all. Looking back, how can one not love this city? Sure, there are a few things that annoy me but they are outnumbered by the enormous amount of beauty and culture that this city holds. The fact that Parisians pull this “I couldn’t possibly know what you’re trying to say” face when you try to say something in French with a slight error in your pronunciation surely knowing what you’re trying to say is annoying, but this annoyance disappears every time you walk the Paris streets.

Other then that Paris is of course the perfect landscape for outfitphotos. The sight of our group of friends must have been amusing for both tourists and Parisians. A group of friends taking numerous pictures of each other over and over again. Even though some Parisians were raising their eyebrows and shaking their heads while walking by we couldn’t possibly care less. A scenery like this isn’t on every street corner where I live so I made use of the architectural overload of this city while I still could.

Socks are a big part of my style, even though they’ve been absent in my outfit posts for quite a while now (blame the weather and my Dr. Martens boots) it was finally time to get them out again and experiment with patterns and colors.

It all started when my nieces and aunt told me a story about this man they’d spotted in Paris who was wearing a particular fabulous pair of turquoise socks. This got me to thinking, why shouldn’t you experiment with socks? Whereas socks were considered a real item of clothing many years ago that people actually seemed to care about it had developed, until recently, into an item that was nothing more then just a cover for your feet. I absolutely despise when I’m on my way to school in the morning and spot a man in a particular well cut business suit that he decided to combine with the ugliest pair of socks in the world. Such as a shame. But with the recent developments in fashion and the dandy style growing faster then ever I think it’s safe to say that socks have made their comeback.

Socks give you the opportunity to add that little extra something to your look. A sort of small surprise or that little pop of color that an ensemble of clothing sometimes just needs. That’s right. Socks.

So did you know that next to blogging on this blog I also blog for another website? Ever since last year I’ve been part of the SWYF blog team and write two posts a week on their blog. SWYF is the place for fashion, a place where you can compare, share and browse trough a lot of webshops at the same time. A complete collection of trendy webshops, all in one place.

While Spring seems to be very, very far away it’s Easter that’s waiting for us this weekend. Even though we should’ve felt the temperatures rise a bit already, heard some little birds and seen the colorful Spring flowers blooming it seems it just won’t be the typical Easter weather this year. But don’t let it bother you, because I’ve picked out something for you to wear during Easter. Something that embodies the light and breezy feeling that Spring and Easter usually embody.

So, Easter is around the corner and you are expected at that Easter family brunch on Sunday. Oh no, you’ve known this for ages but you simply couldn’t find the time to pick the right outfit to wear. Why shouldn’t you take every chance you get to dress up? Since Easter and Spring usually embody something easy, light and fun I thought that this were the things that the ensemble I picked out needed to embody.

An important fact to keep in mind is that you’ll be dressing for a brunch and not for a dinner party, so make sure to create a balance. It’s easy to overdress for these kind of occasions which is something that you obviously don’t want. Go for something casual yet feminine, don’t take yourself too seriously and don’t be scared to experiment with different kind of elements. Combine something chic with something edgy, but make sure to maintain one core. The core of this look was pastel, something that I thought was quite appropriate for Easter. I combined a loose, mesh sweater in a pastel color with a white, pleated and feminine skirt. To cover up the rest underneath the sweater I used the polkadot bustier as a nice surprise. Some simple strappy heels because the upper half has already a lot going on.

Are you ready for that Easter brunch now? You definitely look the part.

The title of this post is an all describing quote about the short citytrip that I spent in this city. My experience of Berlin (one that unfortunately only was five days) left me with an impression of the city that you can be labeled as a bit schizophrenic. This is not a bad thing, not in the slightest as the unexpected is always better then the expected.

I can’t say that I’ve seen the entire city in the mere five days that I spent here. It’s my goal to return to every city at least once to get to know the core of that place, the cool alleyways and the cool cafés that the fabulous residents go to. Jack Lang once said: “Paris is always Paris and Berlin is never Berlin!” When you decide to go to Paris, you expect a Sunday stroll along the seine, the cute bistros, people who refuse to speak English and some bad odors here and there (don’t murder me Parisians, I do love your city) whereas Berlin hands you the unexpected on a silver platter. It feels like the city won’t let anyone or anything define itself. Which is something that I greatly admire in both people and in this case cities.

Clichés are boring. And if you ever need reminding of that just visit Berlin. You’ll know, you’ll just know.

So Berlin, but what am I looking at?

1. Me and my nephew at the East Side Gallery. A part of the fallen Berlin Wall turned arty-farty. No but serious, with a message.
2. Parts of the Berlin Wall too.
3. The Holocaust Monument. Another part of Berlin don’t shall not be defined as the artist wanted everyone to interpreted this monument differently when experiencing it.
4. The Berliner Dome.
5. I’m a real boy now.
6. The New Synagogue.
7. This café shows that with the simplest of ingredients (ginger and lemon) you can create the best tea ever. Literally, ever.

If you read this blog frequently (and I surely hope you do) then you’ve probably seen that I wear my black Dr. Martens very, very often. You might have gotten bored with them or asked yourself the following question multiple times in the past year “Does this boy own any other shoes?” Well, I do. But I’m sure that many of you can relate that you easily grab the most comfortable shoes you own in the morning even though there are many more fabulous babies that you’d rather walk in.

My original Dr. Martens played house to my feet for the past year, ever since I got them in London. As I mentioned before, they were very, very comfortable. But sometimes you just have to admit defeat and they were definitely nearing death (if not already) and thus defeated. I wanted something new but not too different, I don’t like colored shoes – since I rarely wear them. The yellow signature stitching on the sole was something that had been bothering me for ages and I therefore was happy to find these crocodile variants that lacked this yellow stitching.

In light of all the faux stuff I got lately (these boots, my faux fur coat and the statement necklaces) I must admit that I’ve got a thing for fakery. Maybe it’s time for me to join Geordie Shore and get a spray tan?

Where can you get a pair?

Get a pair similar to this one here.

My fur coat is fake Greenpeace! Okay, with that out of the way let’s start.

Ever since I bought this coat in Humana and began to wear it, a second-hand store in Berlin, I’ve been looking around every corner for an animal-rights activist. That particular scene of SATC (the one where Samantha’s white fur coat is destroyed with red paint by an animal rights activist) is replaying itself over and over again in my head. I feel both a bit luxurious and scared wearing this thing as I feel like I’m constantly on the run for someone very angry.

I’d been craving for a furry friend ever since I was a child. It may be due to the 20th Century Fox movie Anastasia (my favorite animation movie as a kid that I watched over and over again every single day for quite some years) or something else but I’ve always had a thing for fur coats. There was a particular scene of the movie where our dear lost (or not so lost) princess is wearing the most luxurious coat I’d ever seen. That coat is as fabulous today as it was while I was raving about it as a chubby 8-year old.

Humana, the place I got this coat in Berlin was absolutely amazing. I’d been thinking about this store for weeks as I’d heard so many good things about it. After imagining the huge amount of bags and items I would leave the store with for two weeks I left with just one item. The irony. In the midst of all the vintage blazers, jeans and even bras (a small part of these vintage stores not uncommon to revolted faces) I found a small corner of fur and faux-fur coats. When this coat caught my eye I was immediately sold. I didn’t feel good in a real fur coat really and this faux-fur coat was the perfect solution. Why shouldn’t a fake fur coat be as luxurious as that one from my memory? A perfect image of my childhood (where Anastasia is obviously involved, holla) makes this coat feel like the most luxurious coat in the world – even though it is fake.

What Am I Wearing?

Faux Fur Coat – Humana (Berlin), Jeans – Vintage, Beanie – eBay, T-Shirt – COS, Bag – Spooky, Socks – Obey, Shoes – Dr. Martens, Earring – River Island | Pictures taken by Merisse Huwaë

Neon. It’s one of those things that you either love or hate. When you’re semi-schizophrenic like me, the relationship that neon and I have is to be compared with an on-and-off one just like one of those crazy celebrity couples relationships. One day I’m totally into it and the next day I find it absolutely revolting.

Crazy color combos don’t seem to be my thing really. While others can wear the craziest of color palettes and wear them with that careless ease that I envy probably a bit too much I usually find myself hating the color palette I’m sporting when I decide to go cray-cray. But this bag seems to match with everything I own. Maybe my attitude towards neon has changed or maybe I turned colorblind in one night but this bag was a great find.

You know, I’ve always hated buying bags just like I hated buying fragrances. They are one of those items that you, just like fragrances, want and need to have but I don’t like spending money on them. But damn was I glad I got this bag. Armed with my neon satchel and another new item that I’ll share with you guys later I paraded around the streets of Berlin. So I’m dying to know, are you guys still into the neon trend or has it already landed on the pile of long-gone trends for you?

You know, I’ve always had trouble with the fact that the men’s collections of high street stores are everything but innovative. When I walk into the Zara or H&M on that particular rainy Saturday for instance I find myself avoiding the mens department because I don’t want to add up to my already depressed mood. Okay, I do understand that my sense of style may not be for every male out there (especially the alpha males with that extra dose of testosterone) but come on design departments – I’m not coming into your store to find the same crap every single season. I find it so strange, particularly in a time like this, where both men and women are exploring more and different kinds of fields when it comes to fashion, that some of these high street brands are still afraid to push the boundaries. Now, I’m not stating that a classic men’s ensemble consisting of a good shirt and pants can’t be fab, but hey – a little variety would be nice, right?

Due to this fact I find myself shopping in the women’s collections most of the time. It seems that women have a bigger longing for individualism (combining individualism and high street stores in one sentence, that’s new) and like to try new things thus stores seem to reply with the craziest of collections. When I found this T-Shirt at Zara I was immediately in love – I mean, who wouldn’t be? Baroque, netting and black and since Zara seems to have developed a liking for oversized this season there was no question about it: this beauty was coming home with me.

What Am I Wearing?

Shirt: Vintage, T-Shirt: Zara, Pants; River Island, Boots – Dr. Martens, Bracelet: Nelly, Earring: eBay
